Most of us have been in this situation.  If you attend the practices with your child, you will learn the basics right along with them.  The more experienced parents and coaches will help you with learning how to adjust the sights.  We also always need people to score targets, to do gun repair and even to provide transportation to and from competitions.  Get involved.  It will make the experience more enjoyable for you and your child.

No, the club owns a number of bb guns that the youth may use. As you and they determine that they will stay involved in the program, you may want to purchase a gun of their own, that can be sized and weighted to their dimensions and strength.   As they grow, we add length and weight to the gun.  The club can purchase guns direct from Daisy a much reduced rate than that advertised on the internet or elsewhere.

We start our practice sessions in early January, and the season ends in late April.  To become a bb gun member, the youth needs to be 8 years old by January 1 (4-H rules) and can compete through the end of the year they turn 15.  Air rifle and air pistol, youth need to be eleven and have two years of bb gun training.  We are space limited, so we do reserve the right to limit our numbers of shooters if necessary.  If interested, contact John Forman (605) 224-6951.

The new building being constructed to the south of the present Izaak Walton Clubhouse is named the Izaak Walton Youth Conservation Center.  It will be primarily a shooting building, being constructed to house bb gun, air rifle/pistol, archery and have a storage and warming area for the trap shooting range. There will also be HuntSafe classes, bow hunter safety classes, etc. held in this building.

The Pierre Junior Shooting Club (PJS) will be one of the primary users of this new facility.  The building will be 50 ft wide by 100 feet long, with the shooting area to be approximately 50' x 75'. There will be a work room, storage, warming area and bathrooms beside the shooting area.

Much of the labor to construct the facility is coming from Izaak Walton members and Pierre Junior Shooter members and parents.  Funding of this facility is not complete.  Fund raising continues to a priority for both the Ikes and PJS. Any donations toward the building would be greatly appreciated by both organizations. There has been great support from the local construction contractors in helping build this building.

The Pierre Junior Shooting Club charges $25 to be a bb gun member and $30 to be an air rifle/pistol member.  This cost covers ammo (bb's and pellets), targets, an instruction book, and insurance - both 4-H and Izaak Walton.

In the 2011-2012 season, we will practice at times similar to the past couple of years.  BB gun will have two sessions.  One session at 3:00 pm and one at 5:00 pm on Sunday afternoons.  Air rifle has one session at 6:00 pm on Monday nights.  Air pistol has two sessions at 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Tuesday nights.
